Thermal Energy Storage at +55°C for cogeneration application  

In 2001, a STL - M.55 - 20 was installed in Soyaux (France) in the heating plant (boilers and cogeneration) distributing a complex of Council flats. The STL is composed of one tank built on site, filled with 20 m³ of M.55 nodules with a phase change temperature at +55°C. The total energy stored is 840 kWh. This plant is operated by DALKIA and was tested during 2 winter seasons to evaluate the potential benefits of this technology for cogeneration application. An efficiency of 96% was reached giving full satisfaction to the client.

Mauritius Commercial Bank: a Cristo’Pak

In 2001, the Mauritius Commercial Bank Ltd decided to replace the two air cooled chillers located on the roof of its MCB Centre at Sir William Newton street in Port Louis , Mauritius . The existing chillers were not in good condition and the maintenance costs were getting prohibitive. With the rising cost of electricity, it was decided to take this opportunity to reduce the rating of the chillers through the installation of a TES with an advanced control system, to be able to take advantage of future off peak reduced tariffs announced by the Central Electricity Board.

At the end of 2002, a “Cristo’Pak” of 750 kW with associated “Cristo’Control” using the latest communication technologies (remote management, e-reporting and preventive maintenance) was installed and this enabled the installation of two new chillers of nominal capacity 470 kW in replacement of the existing 750 kW chillers. The installation was commissioned in early 2003.
