The Cristo'Pak: operating cost savings by a sustainable development technology

In 2002, the company EDENA, which produces spring waters and soft drinks on the Reunion Island, decided to renovate its refrigeration plant.

EDENA is certified ISO 9002 and ISO 14001, and is strongly concerned by the respect of the environment and energy saving. EDENA wanted to realize operating cost savings by optimizing its production process and by adopting innovative technologies meeting the criteria of the sustainable development program of the Island of Reunion.

The Cristo'Pak: operating cost savings by a sustainable development technology

The Cristo'Control panel

To meet these aims, it was decided to install a Cristo'Pak of 315 kW.

The STL supplies 25% of the peak demand (peak shaving) and meet all the cooling demand during peak hours while the chiller is off (9:00-11:30 a.m. and 18:00-20:30).

The principle of the Cristo'Pak and the Cristo'Control (control system developed by  Cristopia) generally used for air-conditioning installation, was successfully applied for an industrial application and associated with an STL - IN.03 - 28 (a phase change temperature of - 3°C).

The use of the Cristo'Pak lead to operating cost savings and has increased the efficiency and the reliability of the cooling plant. In addition, the STL brings flexibility in the management of energy.

Characteristics

The plant consists of a Cristo'Pak of 315 kW controlled with a Cristo'Control. The air cooled chiller (230 kW at 3/8°C and 150 kW at -8/-5°C in charge mode) and the STL tank of 28 m³ are connected to the Cristo'Pak.

The Cristo'Control is able to optimize automatically the use of the TES according to the real cooling demand and to control the installation by remote management. In addition, the performances of the installation can be followed by Internet and the electrical consumptions in each tariff period is measured.

Technical Advantages

Smaller chiller capacity
Reduced maintenance
Efficient and reliable system
Efficient energy management with Cristo'Control
Remote management & preventive maintenance
