Museum of Sciences and Industry : the STLs

In 1983, at the place of the old Paris slaughterhouse in "La Villette" park, a modern leisure centre has been built including :
     The Sciences & Industry Museum
     An audio-visual centre
The famous GEODE (revolutionary 3-D cinema)

The "cité" is one of the largest science and technology centres in the world, and one of the most innovative (150 000 m² of displays, shows, exhibitions). A cooling and heating plant supplies air conditioning to a distribution network.

This plant includes an STL-00-550 (storing 31 MWh) and three 2700 kW chillers.

Characteristics

The STL is used to shave 50% of the peak cooling demand. The STL is charged between 22 h and 7 h during the low electricity tariff.

Technical Advantages

Smaller chiller capacity
Smaller heat rejection plant
Reduced maintenance
System efficiency and reliability
    increased
Increase of plant life time expectancy

Since 1985, the STL shaves 50% of the
cooling demand. Tremendous operating
cost savings have been achieved.

Environmental Advantages

Refrigerant charge reduced (ozone layer protection)
Emission of CO2, SO2 and N2O reduced (greenhouse effect)
